Users will pay a monthly or yearly fee to access TextExpander snippets on the Mac, iPad, iPhone, and even a beta app for Windows.
Since its inception, Twitter has been a very public forum. But now, Twitter wants to be a player in private messages. On Tuesday, Twitter began rolling out a new Message button that you will see underneath each Tweet on your Timeline, right next to the Retweet and heart icons. Tapping on the Message button launches a Direct Message to share that Tweet privately with another Twitter user. The new feature will be available to both iOS and Android users by updating the Twitter app. According to
Your electric bills could soar if you kept Nvidia's monster DGX-1 computer running continuously for one month. The DGX-1 supercomputer can deliver the computing power of 250 two-socket servers in a desktop box, claimed Nvidia, which introduced the system Tuesday at its GPU Technology Conference in San Jose, California. The computer can deliver about 170 teraflops of performance, and multiple boxes on a rack could deliver 2 petaflops of performance. The fastest computer in the world delivers a peak performance of about 10 petaflops. Nvidia says DGX-1 is about 56 times faster than a server with two Intel Xeon-E5 2697 v3 chips, which can deliver about 3 teraflops of performance.
Intel has its eyes on making self-driving cars, robots and industrial equipment safer with a new acquisition. The chip maker has acquired Italian company Yogitech, which provides circuits and software tools for IoT devices to automate decision-making based on data patterns. Intel declined to comment how much it paid to buy the company. Intel will put Yogitech's technology to work in its IoT products, with an emphasis on safety for automated devices. The technology is designed to keep circuits functional and prevent device failure. Yogitech's circuitry will also provide straightforward verification mechanisms for safety decisions made by IoT devices.
Nvidia's varied range of GPU developer tools have been spread out into specialized kits, but that's not the case any more. The company has announced the Nvidia SDK unified toolkit, which brings together its game development, supercomputing, virtual reality, automotive and drone and robot development tools into one package. The toolkit brings together essential tools and libraries necessary for GPU development, Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO of Nvidia, said during a keynote at the company's GPU Technology Conference in San Jose, California. The toolkit is tuned for Nvidia's latest Pascal GPU architecture, which the company is expected to detail at the show. Pascal contains many technological improvements that could trigger changes in the way applications are written for GPUs.
Hyundai is working on a new connected car it calls a "high-performing computer on wheels" that will tap big data and analytics for proactive service and constant connection. The company will collaborate with leading global IT and networking companies to develop a self-driving "hyperconnected and intelligent car," it announced Tuesday, with a focus on connecting it to other cars, the office, and the home. Four key areas will help the new cars make the most of data. A smart remote maintenance service, for example, will remotely diagnose and fix vehicle issues before they become apparent, Hyundai said. Autonomous-driving capabilities will be another key element, as will what Hyundai calls "smart traffic" features to help reduce congestion and make trips quicker. Finally, Hyundai's Mobility Hub will provide security and data management for smarter interactions with the car's surroundings.

A data breach at Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca is being touted as the largest ever, at least in terms of the sheer volume of information leaked. The leaked information allegedly details the ways dozens of high-ranking politicians, their relatives or close associates in more than 40 countries, including the U.K., France, Russia, China, and India, have used offshore companies to hide income and avoid paying taxes. Starting on Sunday, more than 100 news organizations filed reports based on the leaked information.
Google has released one of the largest Android monthly security updates, fixing a total of 39 vulnerabilities—15 rated critical, including four that can lead to a complete device compromise. The patches, which are included in new firmware images that were released Monday for the company’s Nexus devices, will also be published to the Android Open Source Project over the next 24 hours. They include a fix for a vulnerability that Google
Microsoft’s Edge browser may be struggling to find devoted fans, but its developers are making every effort to bring it up to par, especially with extensions. Over the course of a one-day Edge developer summit on Monday, Microsoft showed off how Edge could increase its number of compatible browser extensions by simply changing a line or two of code in an extension written for Google Chrome. And the company pledged to keep its security tight through an upcoming change to “sandbox” Adobe Flash, a popular vector for browser attacks. Morris laid out Edge’s priorities throughout 2016.
Twitter just cemented its reputation as The broadcasts will be free and won’t require cable authentication or a Twitter account. The games will be only half the show, however. Twitter also plans to continue distributing NFL highlights as it does now, and there will be pre-game Periscope broadcasts from individual players and teams.
It’s 2:30 a.m., I’m in my bedroom, and I am under attack. Blue and red orbs hurtle towards me and I throw up my arms to deflect them, swaying back and forth to the angry snare hits in Led Zeppelin’s The song ends and I take off the HTC Vive virtual reality headset. My girlfriend is sitting up in bed, staring at me with a look that’s half-smile, half-bewildered. “Sorry if I woke you up,” I say. She replies: “It wasn’t as goofy as I thought.”

The Trump Hotel Collection said on Monday it is working with the Secret Service and FBI to investigate a possible payment card breach, its second one in less than a year. The luxury hotel group is run by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his family. “Like virtually every other company these days, we are routinely targeted by cyber terrorists whose only focus is to inflict harm on great American businesses,” said Eric Trump, one of the candidate’s sons, in an email statement. “We are committed to safeguarding all guests’ personal information and will continue to do so vigilantly.” News of the breach was
Samsung wants to cram faster and more power-efficient DDR4 DRAM in laptops and hybrids with new memory chips it introduced on Monday. The South Korean company has started mass production of DDR4 memory chips based on the cutting edge 10-nanometer class process. The first 8-gigabit chips will also go into servers. The new DRAM is faster and more power-efficient than DDR4 memory made using the older 20-nm class process, the company claims. DRAM is critical to computing systems. It is where data is temporarily stored as information is being processed. The speed of the memory partly determines how fast data moves through a computer. The new memory chips have a top speed of 3,200MHz, faster than the 2,400MHz on the company’s older DDR4 memory chips.
