Mozilla plans to launch a new testing program next month that will let Firefox users try out potential changes to the browser, according to documents published by the open-source developer. Dubbed “Idea Town” for now, the opt-in program is to kick off Aug. 11 with a teaser in the browser’s new tab page inviting users to register, with additional elements added over the following three months until the testing infrastructure is complete and operational. Idea Town’s goal is to solicit feedback from users of its most-stable build channel—labeled “Release” by Mozilla—to help it decide whether to pull the trigger on new features and UI modifications before adding them to the usual 18-week development cycle.

The vast majority of Android phones can be hacked by sending them a specially crafted multimedia message (MMS), a security researcher has found. The scary exploit, which only requires knowing the victim’s phone number, was developed by Joshua Drake, vice president of platform research and exploitation at mobile security firm Zimperium. Drake found multiple vulnerabilities in a core Android component called Stagefright that’s used to process, play and record multimedia files. Some of the flaws allow for remote code execution and can be triggered when receiving an MMS message, downloading a specially crafted video file through the browser or opening a Web page with embedded multimedia content.

Best Buy will start selling the Apple Watch from Aug. 7, becoming the first national retailer for the smartwatches in the U.S. other than Apple stores, as Apple tries to reach the product to more customers. The retailer said the watch will first arrive at over 100 of its stores and on its online store BestBuy.com. Another 200 stores will sell the Apple Watch in time for the holiday shopping, it added. The retailer’s customers will get to try out and buy 16 models of the Apple Watch, including the Sport and Watch models in both 38 millimeters and 42mm sizes, besides close to 50 accessories such as watch bands, screen shields, stands, and chargers, Best Buy said.

The decision gives law enforcers and intelligence agencies the power to gather communications metadata—who is communicating with whom, where, and when—in real time, with few restrictions. As the law on surveillance progressed through parliament, the government declared it “urgent”, meaning elected representatives in the Senate and National Assembly had only one opportunity to amend it instead of the usual two. They waved it through anyway. Some parliamentarians challenged parts of the law on constitutional grounds, calling on the Constitutional Council to give its verdict.
