Some people seem to think that if they find an image they like on Google Images, then they can just take it and use it how they please. If you are the owner of that photo, being exploited like that both cheapens your work and possibly loses you licensing fees. So the solution is to watermark the image, to make it obvious that the image is yours. My Watermark is a portable application that helps you do this quickly and easily.

Third-party replacement of the missing Windows 8 Start menu (I'm sorry, the Modern/Metro UI is not a start menu) has become quite the booming cottage industry. Stardock's , a $5 alternative, has been the most seamless replacement for several months, but it's now going to have to share that honor with Iobit's Start Menu 8. And, unfortunately for Stardock, Start Menu 8 is free. Start Menu 8 installs easily, mimics the Windows 7 Start menu to a tee—including the search field—and is just as configurable as that which it seeks to duplicate. You can show or hide the items such as administrative tools, control panel, documents, network, photos, etc., as well as disable the hot corners and the Windows 8 sidebar. You can also change the appearance of the start button to match Windows 8, XP, Windows 7, etc., though the menu itself retains the look of Windows 8. You may also easily reach the Modern UI (formerly known as Metro) interface when you want to explore it at your leisure. The Start Menu 8 installation routine will ask you if you want to install Iobit's Advanced SystemCare 6 software (the default is yes), but there's no advertising aside from that. To make a long review short: Start Menu 8 works just like the Start Menu you wanted to see when you first got your Windows 8 PC. Do yourself and anyone else you know who's been saddled with a new interface they didn't really want a favor: Download Start Menu 8; install it; leave the Windows 8 learning curve and inefficiency behind; and get on with your lives.

Even before the launch of Microsoft's Surface Windows 8 Pro, we knew battery life would be its Achilles heel. Now, Microsoft is hinting that it may have a fix in the works. about the new product. One user asked if Microsoft had any plans for an external battery or a keyboard cover with its own battery built-in. “That would require extending the design of the accessory spine to include some way to transfer higher current between the peripheral and the main battery,” Panay wrote in response. “Which we did...” .

Microsoft greatly improved Windows Explorer in Windows 7, making it more configurable and easier to navigate. They improved it even more in Windows 8, where they gave it an Office-like tab system and a more descriptive name: File Explorer. (This is one of the few changes in Windows 8 that I like.) I'm going to concentrate here on one part of Windows/File Explorer: the Navigation pane. It's the left-most part of the Explorer window, listing Favorites and Libraries. These instructions work for Windows 7 and 8. Some of it also applies to Vista.

There is a lot yet to be told about how going private will change Dell, but one thing it won't change is its enterprise strategy. , Dell's enterprise strategy "does not change," Jess Blackburn, a spokesman for the company said in an email. "And by becoming a private company, we can more effectively proceed executing that strategy." There is little reason for Dell to say otherwise. Dell's enterprise software and services revenue is increasing as it expands its end-to-end offerings. . HP warned Dell's enterprise customers on Tuesday that "leveraged buyouts tend to leave existing customers and innovation at the curb."
